Citronella candles are easy to keep mosquitoes away from your guests without using harmful chemicals. These natural Citronella oil candles not only smell great but also help keep your guests safe from bug bites during your next gathering!

In this article, we will show you how to make homemade citronella oil candles that are safe for your family and the environment, and they'll keep mosquitoes, flies, and other insects away from your party.

What Is Citronella Oil?

Citronella oil comes from the leaves of the lemon grass plant. It has been utilized for centuries as an insect repellent because of its strong smell—which is why it's often used as an ingredient in bug sprays today as well—but it has many other uses as well! It is extracted through steam distillation, which means that it's 100% pure and safe for use in candles.

5 Simple Steps To Make Citronella Oil Candles

If you are looking for a natural and safe way to repel mosquitoes, then you should consider making citronella oil candles. These candles are easy to make and can be used to keep mosquitoes at bay during the summer months.

The following instructions will show you how to make a citronella oil candle:

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Citronella oil (purchase 100% natural essential oil from Atma Conscious Living)

Wax and wick in your choice of color and size (you can also use beeswax if you prefer)

Container for melting the wax, such as a double boiler or a glass bowl set over boiling water

Step 2: Measure out the wax and oil.

For this recipe, we're using a scale to measure our wax and oil.

Use a measuring cup or spoon instead if you don't have a scale.

Step 3: Melt the wax and oil together.

Place the glass bowl on top of a pan filled with water and bring it to a boil.

Once the water starts boiling, turn off the heat and add your candle wax and oil to the glass bowl.

Stir until everything has melted together. If you want your candles to be colored, add dye at this point (see step 3).

Use a thermometer to monitor what temperature your mixture has reached--you want it

between 150 degrees Fahrenheit (66 Celsius) and 170 degrees Fahrenheit (77 Celsius).

Step 4: Add natural dye if desired.

You can also add natural dyes if desired. Dyes are not necessary for the candles to burn, but they do give them a unique appearance and make them more beautiful. They come from plants and insects, so they're more expensive than artificial dyes.

However, they're also easier to work with as well as being more environmentally friendly than artificial dyes.

Step 5: Pour into a container and let dry completely.

Now that you have poured and cooled the wax, it's time to add some citronella oil! Pour a few drops into your container and let it sit overnight. The next day, pour in more oil until you get the scent strength you want. If possible, let them sit for 24 hours before burning them so they can harden completely.

3 Helpful Tips for Making Citronella Candles At Home

Making your own citronella candles is an easy and fun project that can help you save money this summer! If you're willing to take matters into your own hands, we've got 3 helpful tips for making citronella candles at home.

  1. Choose the right wax: The best candle waxes are beeswax and soy wax. They both burn evenly and have low soot emissions, which is great for indoor use. Another option is paraffin wax, which can produce more soot and smoke than other types of candle wax.
  2. Choose a good container: You'll need something to hold your melted wax while it cools. You can use any kind of glass or plastic container that holds at least two cups of liquid—the bigger, the better! You can also use metal containers if you want to be able to see your candle through the sides of the container as it melts down into its final shape.
  3. Get some natural citronella oil: Citronella oil smells great outdoors but might not be everyone's favorite smell indoors! If you're going to use this fragrance oil inside your home, make sure there are no children or pets around (or anyone in general) who might breathe in too much citronella and get sick from

Citronella oil is an excellent insect repellent and a good alternative to DEET. It's also great for making candles. So if you're looking for an easy way to keep bugs away from your outdoor gatherings, consider using these natural citronella-infused wax candles.
